Stretching almost 3500 kilometres to the south along the Atlantic Ocean and lying to the east of the Andean mountain chain, Argentina embraces sub-tropical rainforests, deserts to the north, flat grasslands, windswept Patagonia and glaciers and fjord channels in the south of the country. Home to the tango and gauchos, the strong European links are clear upon arrival in the capital, Buenos Aires. This is a city with splendid architecture and stylish street cafes, reminiscent of Paris.
