Guatemala
Guatemala is dotted with magnificent archaeological sites and picturesque colonial cities, with colourful Indian markets. West of Guatemala City the highland area of the altiplano is bounded by a string of impressive volcanic peaks. The old Spanish colonial city of Antigua and Lake Atitlan are popular destinations for visitors. Then there is the truly brilliant Mayan site of Tikal – a site of misty magical temples, which rise up above a cloud covered tropical forest.
